Dr Joachim Pissarro, in his letter of expertise, talks about the connection of this work to Vincent van Gogh:
Pissarro likely travelled to Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, as the inscription on the verso of the drawing in question ‘lxxxx’ indicates that it was executed in 1890. It is likely that either during the time that Vincent van Gogh was living in Auvers-sur-Oise or shortly after his death, while visiting Dr. Gachet, Camille Pissarro saw van Gogh’s latest work. Camille Pissarro’s admiration for van Gogh is evident in this drawing and inspired by its unique style. This influence is particularly evident in the depiction of the houses in the background, the men wearing caps and the fence in the right foreground.
