Marie Cristine Treinen was born in Paris in 1930 from a family of German extraction; she grew up in France. In the 1950s she was one of the more notable students at the Bath Academy of Art (Corsham, UK).
She was extremely knowledgeable about the work of Jean Dubuffet and l’Art Brut and working in a highly individual style in painting, sculpture, print-making and pottery, she exerted a considerable influence on many of the staff, in particular Kenneth Armitage and William Scott.
After her studies she went to Milan (Italy) and she met Fontana, Kaisserlian, Joppolo, Milena Milani, Tullier and the artists of the Nuclear Movement, founded by Sergio Dangelo and Enrico Baj.
