Artwork description
Davood  Roostaei is seeing a dominant theme of his oeuvre with new eyes. When this happens it is an exciting time for both artist and his viewers; especially those viewers who are longtime collectors. In Technology Vs Technology, Roostaei is now awake to the fact that the matador and the bull are robots in this long-time practise of masculinity and man vs what he conceives to be the beast. He wants his viewers to become as “woke” as he is. The matador has always been the robotic actor which has been sent out to do battle with the roboticized bull. Both are victims of a structure outside of their power. A further insight, which is tucked-in to this piece, is the idea of one technology challenging another often with the destruction of one or other of the players. Bullfighting has survived many technological epochs — the one we are now in looks like it will be the endgame. Neither the matador both —physical and metaphorical— nor the controlled bull will survive.
