IX Biennale - Ethics: DNA of Art
Entitled
"Ethics, DNA of Art" the IX edition of the Florence
Biennale, exhibition devoted to bringing contemporary art and
hundreds of artists from all over the world to Florence since
1997.
Founded and developed as a completely independent and
self-financed exhibition; the Florence Biennale, this year under new
artistic direction by Rolando
Bellini.
The focus of this edition is to "scan" the genetic code of
Art, decoding one of its fundamental strands: Ethics.
The
Florence Biennale 2013 will be hosted at the historic Fortezza da
Basso, in the city centre, from November 30th to December 8th
engaging hundreds of artists. The names of the renowned artists who
will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award "Lorenzo
il Magnifico" is
still top secret. In the past 2011 edition this award was given
to Josè
Luis Cuevas and Agatha
Ruiz de la Prada.
In previous editions the awardees included: Marina
Abramovic, Shu
Yong, Gilbert
& George, Christo
& Jeanne-Claude, Richard
Anuszkiewicz, David
Hockney and
many others personalities.
More than ever, the rich array of
events, encompassing in a fundamental way the entire city of
Florence, with exhibitions, performances, and installations that will
for the first time in the history of the Florence Biennale take place
in different locations throughout the year for an ongoing dialogue
between past and present in emblematic venues representative of the
"Birthplace of the Renaissance". These events will lead the
path in contemporary fashion towards the ten days of the Florence
Biennale in 2013.
Florence
Biennale
The
Florence Biennale, founded in 1997, as convocation of all artists,
with all their diversity, to promote art in all its forms becoming a
reference point for creative vitality. A platform that welcomes and
advocates for art and culture, through relevant innovative
events.
In
2001 the Florence Biennale became an official partner in the United
Nations' "Dialogue Among Civilizations" program which aims
to promote dialogue between peoples of diverse cultures through
artistic expression. In eight editions, over five thousand artists
from all over the world have come together, making the Florence
Biennale one of the few international events capable of offering a
complete overview of contemporary artistic production on an
international level.
The "Lorenzo
il Magnifico" International
Award was introduced at the first Biennale in 1997. The prestigious
"Lorenzo il Magnifico" Award is presented during an
official ceremony to participating artists considered to be
particularly praiseworthy by the Members of the International
Jury,
made up of eminent figures on the international art and culture
scene.
The VIII edition confirmed the Biennale as an
initiative of excellence in the international contemporary art scene,
with more than 500 artists from 70 countries from around the world
and more than 2000 works exhibited.
